How To Make Stovetop Popcorn In 7 Easy Steps (Or Less)

Microwave popcorn can be delicious and convenient, but the bags are loaded with harmful chemicals and ingredients. Try this simple stovetop popcorn technique as a healthier alternative. Add spices to your liking or add it to a trail mix!




  • 3 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 1/3 cup popcorn kernels
  • Sea Salt to taste
  • Any additional flavoring (optional): garlic powder, chili powder, dark chocolate chips, parmesan cheese, paprika, etc.






Step 1: Place oil in pan with 4 kernels, cover and turn on heat to medium high.




Step 2: Wait for kernels to pop.


Step 3: Once popped, remove from heat for about 30 seconds total while pouring in the rest of the kernels, adding sea salt to taste, Then cover and lightly toss to evenly distribute kernels and heat.




Step 4: Place back on heat and begin to pop. Slightly vent top to let out some moisture.




Step 5: Once no popping has occurred for a few seconds at a time, remove from heat and pour into bowl.




Step 6: Add any additional seasoning.


Step 7: Enjoy!


Special Notes: 

1.) I keep an old pan on hand to use specifically for popcorn, since the oil is very greasy.

2.) This pairs very well with a green smoothie.
