5 Things That Inspired Me This Week 7/10/15

Joyous Health

I discovered Joy McCarthy of Joyous Health on a Wellness Wonderland podcast that I listened to driving up north last Friday. Joy is a nutritionist with a holistic philosophy on health and wellness. This week I checked out her book and every word is fantastic! Such an inspiration to live well without feeling like you are restricting yourself.

Some of my favorite quotes from her book so far:

“When you take care of your body, you will have a healthy and joyous place to live for years to come.”

“Every choice you make, every thought you think and every morsel you eat can move you closer to joyous health or closer to disease. You are ultimately responsible for your own health and well-being. You have the power to eat and think your way to vibrant health. You have choices! The key is to make these choices now, before your body is out of balance and you have to work twice as hard to get yourself back into balance.”

“Ponder the thought that you become the food you eat. Think about how the food you are eating will literally become the raw materials that build your body inside and out. Every morsel you eat will become waste or be utilized for one of any number of processes in your body, from thinking to creating energy at a cellular level or creating beautiful skin. Ask yourself whether you want to become a junk-food meal of a burger and fries or a beautiful, colorful nourishing salad with a buttery avocado and garbanzo beans.”

Chocolate Chip Tahini Cookies

tahini cookies

Wow. You would not believe that these cookies do not have loads of butter and sugar in them. This is one of Joyous Health’s delicious recipes that I made on Wednesday. Here we are two days later and there are only 2 left… oops. Plus, they are husband approved! Score. I threw all the ingredients in the mixer then used a small ice cream scoop to form the cookies. Mine were twice the size that the recipe calls for so I baked them 6-7 minutes longer. If you like oatmeal cookies, give these a try!

Podcast Addict App

I’ve talked on my blog many times about how much I enjoy listening to podcasts while driving, walking and running. Podcast Addict was introduced to my life over the last week and it is so convenient. You can download podcasts for free and it doesn’t take up much space on your phone. There have been many times that I couldn’t leave the webpage I was listening to it on or I’d lose my spot. It’s great for a non-iTunes gal like me.

Jamie Eason’s LiveFit Trainer 12 Week Plan (modified for me)

Strength Workout

Yesterday concluded week 2 of this program. I’m usually a total body workout person, but have been craving strength workouts everyday recently. Since total body everyday wouldn’t give my muscles enough time to recover, I’ve been doing these workouts at home instead. I have modified the exercises that use machines and instead of doing 3 sets of one exercise before moving on to the next, I complete each set of exercises before starting back at the top to save time. The workouts are not especially hard but I am SORE after so I know I’m doing something. I plan to do one more week of phase one (instead of the planned four total weeks, since I know I’ll get bored) then move on to phase two. Let me know if you’re interested in how I’m doing all the exercises at home!

Donate like-new clothes you don’t wear anymore and purchase deeply discounted designer clothes? Yes, please! I purchased 2 tops and 2 pairs of jeans all for $48, including shipping. You can return items for free if they don’t work out. Get rid of everything in your closet that doesn’t bring you joy and replace them with things you love each season. Plus you’re saving the planet by recycling clothes — win, win situation! You can use this link to get $10 off your first order!
